After the government flooded the small town with a mass of illegal single men in the old RAF base camp, which can house up to 800 men.
Braintree District Council has consistently opposed the camp, but the government has disregarded local interests.Â
The council took the government to the High Court and Court of Appeal in 2023, but was unsuccessful in securing an injunction to block or close the site, as emergency planning powers were used to bypass local planning controls

It's now been reported that staff and residents have reported systemic issues regarding safeguarding, as well as violence, weapons, and tensions between individuals on the base.
